GOP war on women traced back to one bad apple

searchforbibletruths.blogspot.com
Originally published on Yahoo Voices November of 2011, this article is still relevant and on-target three years later.  It seemed worth sharing again, with some modification/updates, since one bad apple can spoil a political party creating hell on earth for women everywhere. So, when life hands us gals apples, I say chuck 'em at the b*****ds! ~ M. Gwynn

The Bible says Eve tempted Adam with an apple from the tree of knowledge, and ever since then, man has been tossed out of the Garden of Eden forever to live in a harsh world of sin, suffering, and pain. It’s all Eve's fault, and she and her many daughters have been punished for it ever since.
Far right wing conservatives eat this nonsense up. They believe every word in the Bible (or say they do, but no one, no matter who they are or what they say), can live their life according to Bible exactly. Why? Two reasons; contradictions and plagiarism.

The Bible is full of both.

The Secular Web points out contradictions; "Genesis 1 and 2 disagree about the order in which things are created, and how satisfied God is about the results of his labors. The flood story is really two interwoven stories that contradict each other on how many of each kind of animal are to be brought into the Ark--is it one pair each or seven pairs each of the "clean" ones? The Gospel of John disagrees with the other three Gospels on the activities of Jesus Christ (how long had he stayed in Jerusalem--a couple of days or a whole year?) and all four Gospels contradict each other on the details of Jesus Christ's last moments and resurrection. The Gospels of Matthew and Luke contradict each other on the genealogy of Jesus Christ's father; though both agree that Joseph was not his real father." And these are just a handful.

What plagiarism? Writer Alberta Parish researched the origins of the story of Adam and Eve, and guess what? We women are being punished for a ripped off piece of literature. She explains "the earth was older than the Bible's Adam and Eve story, which I've recently found out, was a plagiarized story from the Egyptian creation story. I'm talking about writings that predate actual Biblical figures. Writings that are as ancient as possibly 36,000 years. These writings are engraved in stone, which go back to the First Earth Age. We're in the Second Earth Age or possibly the Third Earth Age. I still believe God created a man in His own image and after His own likeness, but what if this particular man that God created was not the Adam of the Bible? What if he was another man created in the likeness of God, because it is obvious that the story of the Egyptian god called Atum and the Egyptian goddess called Tefnut was copied by Biblical writers, and then turned into the Adam/Eve creation version? In addition, the Bible does state that Adam was created in the image and likeness of God which means Adam was an exact replica of the Creator and this, in turn, would make him a god like Atum. There are African writings, which are the first systems of writing that depict the story of God who looks like a black man. Based on historical evidence, the Adam and Eve story was plagiarized from the ancient writings of Egypt's creation story, which historians have termed as mythological stories." (The Buffalo Bullet)

Christianity has ripped off the pagan religion to create their own holiday (Christmas, the commemoration of the birth of Jesus, would be celebrated on Winter Solstice to compete with that pagan holiday), and even garnered the Holy Trinity from what used to be the pagan symbolism for maiden, mother, and crone.

There is a point to this history lesson. As I said in the beginning, the far right wing extremists so believe in these stories, despite presentation of facts that contradict them, that they live out this insane reality of proclaiming to love their fellow man, all the while attacking, belittling, and working hard politically to subjugate women in every possible way.

Since Republicans reclaimed the House majority in 2010, they have steadily set about forcing their women-hating agenda. It began with the attack on Planned Parenthood clinics. The GOP set forth their propaganda machine to try and convince Americans that Planned Parenthood is just a front for government funded abortions. First, this is patently untrue. Laws were already in place that stated in no uncertain terms that federal funding for Planned Parenthood would not be used to pay for abortions. Period. But the GOP hit the media with all kinds of false statements about how federal funding was doing just that and unless the Republicans carry forth with their Holy crusade, thousands of babies will be vacuum-sucked to their deaths. It's important to point out one major fact here; abortion is legal in the United States.

The federal Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade not only says so, but states emphatically that no state law shall supersede the Supreme Court decision. Patients seeking abortion for an unplanned pregnancy are a very small part of what Planned Parenthood is all about. Most who walk through their doors are there for a checkup, cervical cancer screening, pap smears, and to get on birth control which oddly enough helps prevent unwanted pregnancy. Go figure!

You'd think the GOP would get behind the idea of birth control so that women would not find themselves in a situation where they must make such a hard decision - bring a child into the world where the mother is unable to care for him/her or abort. This is not the case. Republican-led states, Iowa, Ohio, and Florida are all trying to push legislation to either ban or limit access to birth control for women. This is absolutely insane. (At the time of republication of this article, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Kansas, and Mississippi have all passed excessively restrictive laws banning abortion after 20 weeks no matter necessity as decided by a physician, restricted access to birth control, and have so skewed policy and regulations governing the running of clinics that provide abortion services that they’ve had to close their doors leaving millions of women without access to these medical services – endangering their lives)

Left to the GOP, women will be pushed back in time more than 50 years. All the progress that has been made will be scrapped. What's next? Taking away women's right to vote? Making us all walk 10 paces behind every man? Should we bow and scrape, too?

And the worst part about it is that this crusade is based purely on one single religion; Christianity. Excuse me, but isn't this the United States of America? Isn't this the land of religious tolerance, where all are welcome, regardless of race, creed, or religion? It is what our country was founded upon; religious freedom.

This means that no one religion shall make laws to supersede another. We cannot legislate from the Bible or any other Holy book. To do so infringes upon the rights of others and we have the First Amendment to protect us from such folly.  Sadly, the SCOTUS which should protect and defend the constitution including the First Amendment is conservative-led and bought and paid for by the super-rich.  And thanks to their gutting of Citizens United and the recent McCutcheon case, America has left democracy behind and become an oligarchy.

And why are women the target of such obvious attack, not just from the right, but from the male right? Why are men so afraid of women that they seek to designate them to not just second-class citizens, but third-class citizens. I think men from the religious right would be as happy as pigs in slop if women were deemed 'property' once again.

I can tell you this. People fear what they don't understand, and it's arguable that men do not understand women, the reason why we're here, and they fear our inherent power. Let's face it. Men can't bring life into the world, and doing so requires a strength and fortitude that many men do not possess.

Ladies, you're being robbed of your rights, piece by piece. The party of so-called 'family values' (a party fraught with scandals such as the sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain who repeatedly denies he ever harassed anyone because "for every one allegation, there are thousands who say I didn't harass them", and now has his lawyer, Lin Wood, telling any other potential accusers that they better "think twice' before coming forth), is not about family values at all. It's about power; power to the man to act the way he wishes, keep a mistress on the side while having a barefoot, pregnant wife in his home. These men seek the power to be uncontested in all they do. (Quiverful Ministries, anyone?  What about the ‘Kissing Congressman”, McCallister?)

This grand-theft larceny is being perpetrated upon women based on the most famous fairy tale of all; the story of Adam and Eve; a story stolen from ancient Egypt - a story, by the way, that would make Adam (or Atum) a black man. Now you know if that's true, then the woman created to be his mate would be a black woman and would not take any crap from him, especially being blamed for original sin when that fool begged her to make him an apple pie!

So what are you ladies going to do about it?  Roll over and take it one more time, or get out and vote in November?  We're one step away from losing our voting rights and wearing head covers!

It’s up to women this time, like it always is, to clean up the mess made by men behaving badly. Don’t stay home this November.  Get the heck out there and VOTE!
